Homebrew version of Infectus to develop VHDL / VERILOG (ACTEL chips)

A HOMEBREW version of INFECTUS will be released in the next weeks. This version is an empty one, it will not be released for the VIDEOGAMES market, but for everyone willing to develop ACTEL chips. In facts, the homebrew version will allow to try directly VHDL or VERILOG (languages for the FPGA ACTEL) applications, without buying the ACTEL development kit (costing more than 300 USD).
With a few euros everyone will be enter the VHDL development world, being able to experiment its applications.
Infectus becomes the (economic) home development kit for Actel!

which part of "will not be released for the videogame market" is so hard to understand?
homebrew means you can develop your own actel software, NOT that you can play homebrew on xbox360 or ps3.

Good news for all VHDL/Verilog developers out there. There are many other applications for Infectus than the simple consoles real-time patching. A low cost solution like Infectus will quickly find a niche in the market.
Very good idea.

Would be great if this chip could live just from the power supply of the USB port, both for programming and for normal operation. It would also be a nice feature if there was a way to communicate the FPGA with the PC through the USB (i.e. PC sends chunk of data to FPGA through USB, FPGA processes data and returns it throgh USB).
Along with reprogrammability (intrinsic to ProAsic3) those would be killer features.
Regards.

There are limits.. usb give not much current.

What you mean? Why want you send chuck data to fpga and get it back?

IN the next week I and the DEV team will discuss about the HOMEBREW VERSION... I think will be next step after WII NAND FLASHER

USB provides 50 mA. Depending on how much the Flash takes, this could be enough to reprogram everything without connecting the Infectus to any other power supply. This could be important or not, depending on what market you want to hit. People like me, who will not use the chip on any console, need a simple way to make him alive, and there's nothing easier than connecting it to the USB port.
About your question, what I meant is that the key application that most non-console customers will carry out with your chip, is to process data on it. Data comes from the PC, and it must return to the PC once it is processed.
Just giving you some ideas, because I think you are very close to it, and a little effort can make a huge difference.
Regards.

When you connect the infectus to a board (powered off), you give power to much parts of the circuit (not only to the flash).

Do you wanna use this way like protection? Or need you an hardware crypt/decrypt for your datas?

We can use this for many purposes. What you said is one possible application, but I was thinking about simple image processing (we cannot do complex things with a small proasic3).

so you are saying I can program this one to do anything like interface the playstation3's motherboard with that of an external X86_64 intel motherboard with the intel-quad x86/64 processor in it so I can run vista on the Playstation3 natively via this method. Then when running a math app or multi-threaded non general-purpose app the CELL will take over. as long as this infectus is soldered onto or communicating with another infectus ps3 mod chip. I want to combine the ps3 with an X86_64 computer directly via this mod chip soldering to both PS3's and x86_64's motherboards to exchange tasks between them as well as operating systems like vista ultimate OEM x64 version as well as apple's leapard OS10.5 plus an underlying kernel on the hardware level to modify vista to take advantage of both processors as well as motherboards
