Dear customers,

we recieved a lot of enquires about SPI flash for ARGONS...
Like all see on ARGON PCB, near the JTAG connector, there is a space to place a little SPI FLASH that allow to support new firmwares 9 wires based on "code injection" (wasabi like).

The flash necessary is a 2Mbit flash part no. PM25LV020--100SCE.

We are stocking this flash in the next days and we will offer it for 0.5 eur to all the users that want to update their OLD argon.

To demostrate how we take care on the distribution chain we will offer SPI FLASHES for FREE to update the stocks in wherehouses... the rule is this: we will calculate how many qts every distributor bought last two months, and we will give 30% of these quantities for free... so if one distributor bought 1000 argons in the last two months he will recieve for free 300 SPI flashes from us.

The new ARGON with SPI FLASH on board is in arrival in the next days, we will start preorders soon... we will send a mailing list for that...
PRICE OF NEW ARGON + SPI FLASH WILL BE THE SAME!!!

LAST MINUTE NOTES:
The first firmware 9 wires use the same firmware of WASABI, so the results will be the same, after firmware is injected no differents there will be between argon and wasabi.
Of course all see what happen with WASABI MODCHIP, the code is not STABLE and don't works on some WII in the market (expecially the new batches in arrival)...
All can see here the users feedbacks:

http://wiinewz.com/forums/wasabi/67148-wasabi-d2c-red-light-reset-quirk.html

The BIG advantage of ARGON / INFECTUS users is that with JTAG UPDATE they can switch in 2 minutes on old 17 wires realpatching solution, that is the BEST and STABLE solution in the market...
WASABI users can only put in the trash the modchip, because if modchip doesn't works of course the DVD update doesn't works...

BYE FOR NOW
INFECTUS TEAM

I LOVE your great work @ Team Infectus!

Don't listen to all the lamers who try to flame on you! They don't know anything about good support and great and hard work you do!

Back to topic.

Do I need this SPI flash too on my Infectus2 if I wanted to try the wasabi firmware? Or does the Infectus2 has this feature already on board?

Didn't got this anywhere

Thanx a lot!

Spocky17 a very happy Infectus2 @ Wii PAL D2C D1A User

Fantasic.  Thanks for releasing the SPI flash information.  I assume this is necessary to be able to use the 9 wire firmware even if you don't want the ability to update via DVD?

Thanks again.

As I understand the claim above is 13 +4 (17 wire install) is the best and most stable instillation available.

So I assume you provided a 9 wire solution just to prove it can be done (but less stable then the 17 wire install)?

Seems the smartest option is to stick with 13 +4 install.

1. INFECTUS and INFECTUS2 has the PARALLEL FLASH ON BOARD, so not necessary another flash. Argon only need a flash

2. REAL TIME PATCHING will be for long time the best and stable solution, in all cases ARGON / INFECTUS users will have the chance to install argon in 9 wires like wasabi, with a full emulation of wasabi..

Currently for d2c the 13(+4) wire seems to be the most stable solution for now untill the issue is found and fixed. So far wasabi also had lots of succes on many d2c wii's and is not less stable then argon 13 wires. It only happens randomly on some wii's and could be install related (wire routings/length)
For the older chipsets wasabi seems to work good. (it's much easier to install wasabi on a cut legged d2b chip)
Also the not working wasabi's actually can be updated via dvd since they start working after resetting the chip (connecting k and ground for a split seccond) and sometimes it works after just waiting a couple of minutes. Once the code is injected it keeps working untill the wii is powered off or reset and then the process needs to be repeated.

Anyway I'll just wait and see what will happen. D2pro seems to release an 8 Mbit flash, argon 2 Mbit and wasabi has been quiet for some time now. On top of that some other team claims to also have ripped wasabi's firmware and is preparing a chip. All firmwares are probably gonna be the same so let's see who first comes op with an optimized code and possibly new features.

That sounds like Argon/Infectus 9 Wire Firmware uses same install points than Argon/Infectus 13+4 wire installation.

Makes me a bit confusing?

Does that mean I can switch my curently installed 13+4 Infectus2 to a 9 Wire Infectus2 only by reflashing with the wasabi firmware? Nothing other to solder or desolder?

I've understood that in an other way...

I think it should say that you can change chips's firmwar in about 2 min.

It's not oficially now but i think that 9+1 Wire Solution for Argon uses the same points like Wasabi

But maybe you are right - than it would be nice to have two possibility's

1. the same installation like Wasabi needs
2. leave cables from 13+4 installation - than users could switch by Update there Chips between 9+1 FW and 13+4 FW or maybe by Setup Disc
That would just be possible if Actel can manage the pinout sellection with a little patch ore something like that...

But i think the future will show us what's possible

Thanks for the info.

Any suggestions for a US-based source for the flash?  Or a cross-reference?

Seems like this chip is equivalent. Perhaps somebody more knowledgeable can confirm.
