MODIFY THE REGION CODE OF THE XBOX 360 WITH INFECTUS 2 AND LINUX GENTOO
This solution introduced by Raiden absolutely matches the Guide to DUAL KERNEL that would allow you to have a dual boot of the Console whether if it is the original Region Code or the one modified by simply switching the interrupter. Click here
Remember also doing this modification to the Console will alter the product guarantee; the procedures listed below and the installation to be made is advised to all those who has a discreet, if not, good working skill on electronic boards.
Here under is the list of the essential material in order to execute such operation:
- A Console with Kernel 4532
- One Chip Infectus 2 which can be obtained at our sponsor Hardstore: Click Here
- The Infectus Programmer software downloadable at the official website: Click Here
- Eventually the Add On in order to execute the Downgrade in Timing Attack also available at our sponsor Hardstore: Click Here
- The Linux Gentoo Software Downloadable on the internet
- The backup of King Kong game
- The files needed to patch the King Kong Game image: Click Here
- The Dump Packet to execute the CPUKey and some EFUSE: Click Here
- The Update Packet for the Kernel 4532: Click Here
- The program FlashTool 0.87: Click Here
- One Hex Editor available on the Net
- A Network Cable to connect the Console/Computer (Cross o Direct depending on the type of connection you want to do)
- At least 2 verified email addresses
- A Keyboard and a USB Mouse
To know how to know the Version of the Dash, you only have to switch on the Console and in the System Settings, you should see in the section "D" and "K" the Version 2.0.4532 or 2.0.4548 (or previous versions... or 2.0.2858, like the one I'm working on).
Once you have identified the Kernel Version, based on what you have seen, you can proceed in two different ways:
- If your Kernel Version is the same or inferior to 4532 or 4548 you must first of all save the backup; the Backup procedure can be found at the following Link: Click Here
- If your Kernel Version is higher than 4548 you must proceed with a downgrade using the Infectus Chip; the procedure can be found at following link: Click Here
Uncompress the file which contains the Kernel 4532 Update and burn them on CD using what ever CD writer Software, after that insert the CD in the Console. The system will start reading the CD it will ask if you want to install the update or not.
At the end of the Updating process if you check out the version again, you should see the following "D" or "K" version 2.0.4532:

Now that the Console is ready you can proceed with the work itself.
First of all you should take a working Dump from the NAND:
IMPORTANT:
You must follow these instructions step by step, a tiny mistake could delete permanently the NAND and the console would be USELESS. .
The PROCESS that you are about to do will ALTER THE PRODUCT GUARANTEE
As you surely know to be able to do the Backup of the NAND, you should have the Console in the following conditions :
- USB Cable connected to the Infectus Chip NOT with the computer
- Video Cable connected to the Console (not necessarily connected to the TV)
- Console and PC connected to a Power Unit supply if possible
- The Adapter connected to the Console but not plugged to Electric Power (The NAND is always powered even the Console is switched off)
Plug in the XBOX360 to the Electric source, switch it on and connect the USB Cable to the computer. After that run the Infectus Programmer software, that will try to detect the chip installed and the NAND. If nothing has been detected check the soldering section:
It could be possible that you are asked to update the chip… do not worry, let the Programmer run till the closing stage, at the end of the Update you switch off the Console, disconnect the power for ten seconds and repeat the same proceed again.
Once the NAND has been detected, proceed from the MENU "Flash Commands" and select "READ":
The program will ask you where to save the Backup of the NAND which shall be generated:
The READING session will then begin:
At the end of the process you should check if a BACKUP file about 16.5 MB with the extension .bin has been created in the directory you previously selected:
We suggest that you make a couple of copies of that Dump just in case you should need another copy for the next procedures. We remind you if you loose this file you will have to throw away the Console.
Now that you have the Dump File you can start the creation of the modified King Kong game to boot from Linux Gentoo.
Let’s now take the original game image and paste it in the directory where the patch files have previously been uncompressed, to enable to patch the image of the King Kong game (Click Here).
From Windows Select - START - RUN and type "CMD" then click "OK":
From here go inside the directory containing ISO backup of the King Kong game and the file to be patched.
Type the following command:
win_patch.exe "FILENAME" of the compressed image. In my case the command line will be ... win_patch.exe image.000:
Wait until the process has been done and burn the new image newly patched on a DVD Dual Layer Drive.
Once the DVD with the patched King Kong game is ready you can prepare the Linux Gentoo disc. Take the Linux image and burn it on a DVD Dual Layer Drive.
At the end you will have two DVD’s, one containing the patched King Kong game and the other one containing Linux Gentoo.
Proceed to the next step… Connect to the Console:-
-the Keyboard and the USB Mouse
-the Network Cable to the Computer or Router
Switch on the Console and insert the King Kong game.
Click "START" when the menu is visible on screen:
After the game has been Loaded, the Console will be blocked and the Drive will eject the DVD. Quickly swap the disc with the one containing the Gentoo:
After a few seconds Linux will be loaded:
At the end of the process your screen will look like this:
Leave temporarily the console and work on the computer for the following step.
You need to copy 2 (two) specific files into the Console named dump32 and dump32c dump32 and dump32c which will allow you to extract the CPUKEY of the Console and the file which contain the EFUSE.
Taking advantage of Linux Internet Browser you will have to extract the files by email.
Now from your computer you will have to send the files as attachments which you will have to download from the Console. Go through the following step:
Create a new mail and add the files dump32 and dump32c:
Send the new created mail to the other email address:
Once the mail has been sent from your computer go back to the Console and launch the internet:
From the Internet, access to the recipient's mail box to download the files dump32 e dump32c:
Save the File directly in the Console:
As you will notice a new folder named “Download” has been created on the desktop inside which you will see the files saved from the mail:
Select the files, Click and Drag them onto the desktop. Once done, go to: Applications\Accessories\Terminal:
Start Typing the following commands:
cd Desktop <--- (The "D" should be in uppercase) and hit "Enter" Key
chmod +x dump32 and hit "Enter" Key
sudo ./dump32 and hit "Enter" Key
There will be a short process which will last a few seconds... once finished go back to your Desktop:
At this point you will see the following files on your Desktop:
- 1BL.BIN
- NAND.BIN
- Fuses.txt <---- which is really important
.From this point, you should transfer these files Fuses.txt e 1BL.BIN again on your Computer.
To do this we should proceed like before... using the mail. Log in to your mail box and use the Gentoo Internet Browser and attach the two files Fuses.txt e 1BL.BIN:
Extract the EFUSE and from then you can detect the CPUKEY which is really important for patch operation of the NAND.
Open the file EFUSE.TXT related to the unbanned Console, like you can see below, there are subdivided numbers and different address:
- 00
- 01... up to 0b
You should see the byte values of 03 and 04 are identical:
Same thing for byte 05 e 06:
THE CPUKEY should be the sum of Bytes including the values 04 and 05:
All you need to do is to Copy and Paste both together and make a note as well:
Now open the Flash Tool 0.87 software and click "CHIAVI". (Key)
Insert the following DD88AD0C9ED669E7B56794FB68563EFA in the 1BL section and CPUKEY previously extracted in the CPU section and click "OK":
At this point select the Dump for the NAND clicking the DUMP FILE section.
As you can note the Software will allow you to see many interesting things like:
- the DASH Version mounted on the Console (1)
- la regione di appartenenza (2)
- The DVD KEY (3)
- The Lens of the Console (4)
- The Serial (5)
Write down the DvdKey and the Driver type installed and save it in a safe place :
Click the Icon "ESTRAI" and flag the "Key Vault", click "OK" and the program will ask where do you want to save the file:
The KV.BIN file extraction (Key Vault) will last a few seconds at the end it will be wise to save a couple of copies and save one of them in the necessary folder like you did previously with the DUMP of the NAND:
You are actually reaching the end... Open the DUMP with the program FLASH TOLL, check the CPUKEY is correct and select "MODIFICA", in the next window select "MODIFICA KEYVAULT" and then "REGIONE" to decide which one to set among "EU", "JAP" e "US":
Select "OK" and decide where to save the new modified DUMP NAND:
At the end of n the process, to be sure we only have to open the DUMP newly created and check if:
- The version of the DASH mounted on the Console is regular
- The free Region has been modified
- The DVD KEY is exactly the same as before
- The Console is exactly the same as before
You have now finished, you can now copy the modified DUMP inside the console, to do this you should have the console in the following conditions:
- Mini USB cable connected to the Chip Infectus but NOT to the PC
- Video cable connected to the console (not necessarily connected to the TV)
- Console e PC connected if possible to a Power Supply Unit.
- The Adapter connected to the Console but not plugged to Electric Power (The NAND is always powered even the Console is switched off)
Plug in the XBox 360 to the power, switch it on connect the USB Cable to the PC, once the NAND has been detected Select from the Menu "Flash Commands" and run "ERASE" and wait till the session ends:
Without touching anything go back to the menu "Flash Commands" and select the option "Write":
Now select then NAND File previously modified from the back up :
Wait until the process has finished writing the NAND till the end on the Console:
Done!!, switch off the console, disconnect the adapter and the USB cable.
Reconnect everything and test that the console is fully functional and ready to be use for other games as well having non different region or non free region.
IMPORTANT
You can repeat the procedure and create other Dash(ie. Having the complete Dash collection PAL, NTSC e JAP). I suggest keeping a back up of the modified dash with a different region in a way to use it the way you want. It is useless to point out; to ALWAYS save a copy of the ORIGINAL NAND… we could not know what might happen at the end.
HAVE FUN!!!
