Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: brk1 on February 26, 2008, 06:28:31 pm Is this classed as a Beta or final version ? Everything was working with 1.7 b ,but like to stay up to date. :)

Might be the same problem for yu (if yu hve the extra 4 wires of course) ;)O yh some1 mentioned they had problems wit originals, but i neva had ANY problems wit originals not even on fw 1.2. Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: dellskyline on February 26, 2008, 07:30:39 pm yes ive got the 4 region free wires cant be that because the games do load if u keep putting them in and so do ntsc games...
Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: shaunie81 on February 26, 2008, 08:12:21 pm I was having choppy video playback on 1) Wario Ware and 2) Sonic + Mario at the Olympics. This problem has been totally fixed with the new firmware.
The FMV Intro's would lag very bad on all media: Sony DVD+R burned at 4X, Verbatim DVD+r at 4x and Verbatim DVD-R at 4X. Excellent Update. Thanks!!! Is there any way you guys could add a DVD playback function to the chip? I know that Wiikey has some homebrew software that you can load. But this is Infectus...and anything is possible... Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: krayziexploiter on February 26, 2008, 08:32:18 pm you can run the wiikey utility disc on argon too. it's not chip specific.

It would be better and better, my last problems with 1.8 (125) on my PAL Wii LEH165 D1A-Board 1) Im ust break Mario Sunshine Intro !!! If i play it regular, it comes the information, that i must pull out the GC bla bla ... If i break the intor Movie between, press A its all OK !! 2) the problem, that the programmer must unpluged for 100% funkction. For Example: If i want to Play EA Playground and programmer was plugged, the disk don´t can be read, everytime --> blackscreen. With unplugged Programmer no Problems, the Game starts direct !! Same Problem at Need4Speed thanks Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: truttle on February 27, 2008, 08:31:17 am all seems to be working on my 3.1U wii infectus2

The others backups are running good. Thanks.- Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: aguantalo on February 27, 2008, 10:54:06 am A question.... Its good or bad to extract the programer of the wire in the infectus 2? What do you usually do?, you let the programer in the wire or you extract it?, can i break the wires if i put and extract a lot of times?...........

I updated my Wii to 3.2U, and I have the 1.8 firmware. I have a US Wii. I am once again getting the Choppy Video Playback bug on all the games I have tested so far.
Choppy video on: Super Mario Galaxy, Wario Ware, and Dragon Ball Z 3 All of the disks are now burned on Verbatim DVD-R at 4X and 6X using Img Burn. I had these on DVD+R Verbatim (Video not as choppy), and Sony DvD+R, where the Video is still very choppy. It is really annoying to have to watch the really bad video playback. Is anyone else having this problem?? Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: krayziexploiter on March 01, 2008, 08:22:52 am I had it once. Turned out here were grease spots (fingerprints) on my disc. After cleaning it was fine. So it probably is media/burner/wii lense related. It can't read the data fast enough for the cutscenes to play smooth.

Choppy video on: Super Mario Galaxy, Wario Ware, and Dragon Ball Z 3 I've exactly the same problems of you! 3.2E, Pal WII, FW 1.8 Super mario galaxy and DragonBall Z 3 plays with choppy video. SMG semms to do this only in the first video. I've tried to burn my Verbatim -R to 8x instead of 4x, but the result it's the same. I haven't fiind a solution yet... I'll try to burn SMG to 16x Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: cmyhack on March 01, 2008, 11:02:35 am My Wii is 3.2E..Argon 1.8..SMG on Verbatim ADVANCED AZO+ -R @16 runs PERFECTLY!
Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: krayziexploiter on March 01, 2008, 11:46:53 am some burners also have better resuts then other burners. And indeed don't try to burn slower. It only increases writing errors.
Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: cmyhack on March 01, 2008, 11:55:31 am You've to watch the burner max speed too..mine is 18x..so i can write at 16x without problems..maybe if yours has max speed 16x it's better to burn @12 o 8x..it's always better to don't effort the device..
Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: pablo73 on March 01, 2008, 02:42:29 pm SMG burn at 8x and 16x. 8x choopy like 4x, 16x in the first 3/4 seconds the video is PERFECT, no slow, no choppy, but after these 3/4 seconds the video and the sound is slowly and choopy like before, so no solution with 16x burn

Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: RomperStomper on March 02, 2008, 11:34:07 am I updated to 1.8 from 1.3 and I notice a loud noise while trying to boot games that never happened before.
In 1.3 I could't play any Gamecube games but these ones seem to work now : Mario Tennis Mario Dance Dance Revolution A multigame Emulator (got it to boot but no game seems to play, I think it's the emu it's self :( ) And these ones have errors : Skies of Arcadia Legends ( really wanted to play this one ) but error saying unable to read disc. Eternal Darkness ( also really looking forward to this game, heard so much about it) Loads up to title screen and a voice starts, then I get an error on screen saying there is a problem with this disc. Crazy Taxi This game seems to play fine, but I have all horizontal black lines up top of the screen that arn't supposed to be there. And last one is a WII Game, TRAUMA CENTER: NEW BLOOD . It see's the disc in the drive, and when I go to play it by clicking START, it just goes to a black screen. And it freezes my wii. ONly way to get off it is by disconnection the power at the back. Btw, my Wii is a PAL Console, but I have played other NTSC games before in it, out of the ones I've tested it's just this NTSC one. Anyone else have a Pal consoel and got New Blood to work ? EDIT: I don't know if it's a coincidence or not, but I flashed it back to Argon 1.7 and now Skies of Arcadia is working and doesn't make those loud noises when trying to boot a game. But unfortunately NEW BLOOD is still the same :( :( :( :( Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: krayziexploiter on March 02, 2008, 12:47:02 pm eternal darkness works fine here on my pal console
Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: Td on March 02, 2008, 01:16:53 pm I can't say definitively until I have time to run some tests (might be a couple days), but it seems something has changed in the Wii backup read code. I tried starting Super Mario Galaxy and it came up as unreadable disc. Had to reboot the Wii (completely power down and power back up) and then eject the disc and put it back in. Then it worked. Played for about 3-4 hours, got to the end movie in SMG and it stopped half way through with the "an error has occurred" message. I ejected the game and put it back in and a couple seconds later the movie continued playing. The laser also sounds like it's having problem keeping in sync with the tracks on the disc at times. But besides that, no hiccups while playing.
Similarly, Zelda had some trouble getting recognized (Unable to read disc). And the first time I booted it on 1.8 it had the "Error has occurred" screen. Has anybody else been getting these messages on Infectus 1.8? Infectus 1.4 didn't seem to have any of these problems, but something might've happened when I was upgrading to 1.8. I'm gonna flash it back to 1.4/1.7 and see if I still have issues sometime in the next couple days hopefully. Just wanted to see if anybody else was having similar problems. This is a NTSC Wii w/ Infectus 1 - Wiiktus 1.8. Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: shaunie81 on March 03, 2008, 12:12:53 am I reburned the isos at 8X on Verbatim DVD-R. This is the fastest my DVD burner will burn. I am still getting the choppy video on FMW. The video is extremely bad on SMG opening scene.
This was on a US Wii, with Firmware 3.2U, and 1.8 Firmware. If infectus could put out an update to fix this, this would be appreciated. I have the Argon 125 chipset, and noticed that others are having the same problems also. The media was also burned on DVD+R Sony at 4 X and Verbatim DVD+R at 4 X with the same problem. The install is good, and was done professionally, and the wii is less than 2 months old (played for one). I doubt it can be the machine itself. Thank you in advance for looking into the problem. Non Working Mario Power Tennis -- Freezes while trying to start a tennis match Paper Mario tyd -- Freezes during game Super Mario Strikers -- Freezes when going into a match Super Mario Sunshine -- Freezes at professor Windwaker -- Error reading disk or freezing during game Resident Evil Zero -- Freezes during game Resident Evil 1 -- Can play for long periods of time but still freezes Resident Evil 2 -- Freezes during game Resident Evil 3 -- Freezes during game Eternal Darkness -- Freezes at Edgar Allen Poe Beyond Good & Evil -- Freezes at a cut screen Working Bomberman Jetters -- Works perfectly! Bomberman Generation -- Works perfectly! Super Smash Bros Melee -- Works perfectly! Mariokart DD -- Works perfectly! Geist -- Works perfectly! Metroid Prime 2 Echoes -- Works perfectly! Phantasy Star I and II -- Works perfectly! Luigi's Mansion -- Works perfectly! Wario World -- Works perfectly! All Games have been tested as long as it took for errors to occur. Someone please reply if they've had different results with these NTSC games on an NTSC WII. Argon team, you guys are doing a great job! 1 or 2 more versions of the firmware and you'll have it perfect. Thanks!!! Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: RomperStomper on March 03, 2008, 11:08:27 am Eternal Darkness -- Freezes at Edgar Allen Poe
Is this at the title screen of the game Ugotit and you hear a voice then it says please restart your system or something like this can't rememebr and freezes ? If so I got the same problem as you on this game. Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: Ugotit on March 03, 2008, 03:49:17 pm Eternal Darkness -- Freezes at Edgar Allen Poe Is this at the title screen of the game Ugotit and you hear a voice then it says please restart your system or something like this can't rememebr and freezes ? Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: larrylje on March 03, 2008, 05:23:34 pm Mario Power Tennis -- Freezes while trying to start a tennis match Paper Mario tyd -- Freezes during game Super Mario Strikers -- Freezes when going into a match Super Mario Sunshine -- Freezes at professor Windwaker -- Error reading disk or freezing during game All of the above games work perfectly fine for me exept for Super Mario Sunshine. If you direct boot you get the error message after the professor ask Mario to get some assitence. Fix for this is shrinking the image or use GCOS boot disc. Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: argonwii on March 04, 2008, 06:01:32 am It seems to me that the newer firmware puts more strain on the drive and also seems louder when loading during a game. Maybe the more "efficient" code may load faster but the drive is louder. I'm not sure if I'm the only one noticing this.

Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: Vampyre on March 04, 2008, 03:56:22 pm tested on PAL wii
GC (all games PAL): Multiiso Mario Kart - Works Geist - freezes when try to start. i heard sound once but then never again Star fox adventures/assault - works star wars rebel strike - works for now i only had problems with Geist. anybody know if it works on single dvd without making a multiiso? i don't want to waste a DVD. getting really expensive ;) selected setting in menu: PAL60 (since the game only runs with PAL60) WII (all games PAL): for now EVERY!! games works without any mistakes, freezez etc. Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: renepela on March 04, 2008, 08:16:53 pm I flashed my Argon with the 1.8 firmware today and did some testing.
I believe version 1.8 is close to perfection, but still not perfect. Here are my results - All Wii games I have work ! Originals and copies. Pal and NTSC. - Some games have choppy video playback. However it worked fine on firmware 1.3. So somehow something happened to the dvd playback speed in version 1.8. - Some games on multigame Gamecube disc don't work (black or green screen). However they do work on another wii with a wiikey installed. So I guess there's a small problem with multigame discs. - Single GC discs all work perfect. - Some games won't start or crash with the injectus attached. So here's the points for improvement. 1) Choppy video/drive speed 2) Injectus permanent attached 3) More compatibility with GC multigame discs. But overall I think I can say 1.8 is very good and close to perfection !! I'm happy i have an Argon. Thanks ! My Wii has 3.2E firmware.
I understand that it suposed to work even if I have only 13 wires; is this true ? or I have to add the other 4 wires. plz answer me. thanks Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: krayziexploiter on March 04, 2008, 09:03:41 pm you don't need the 4 wires for your originals unless they are from another region.

Title: Re: Argon should fix the region compatibility problem. Post by: rockwei88 on March 05, 2008, 10:50:32 am tested 48 silver disk NTSC wii games (not gc games) on PAL WII(13+4 wires, 1.8 fw), 30 fully works, 18 freeze on load(same freeze on wiikey), all games can be seen the logo on disk channal. really a lot improve compare the result with 1.7 firmware which only 5 works. Following games freeze on load table tennis ice age2 chicken little scarface the world is yours mario party8 victorious boxers revolution bust bash sammy's collection prince of persia rival swords splinte cell double agent call of duty 3 dragon blade wratte of fire ratatouille brunswick pro bowling the simpsons game dance dance revelution hottest party boogie shirek the third Looking at the regional compatibility chart most of those games are not compatible playing on a PAL wii. as we know there is a list of games cannot run under different reginon wii. while argon state it has the advantage upgrade function which could bring the endless power. so it should have the ability to fix this problem. however, at this moment(firmware 1.8 ) the compatibility problem still exist the same as the other modchip on the market. which make it no difference compare with the other product on this market. let's keep an eye on it see if arogn can jump out of the rest of the market. Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: RomperStomper on March 05, 2008, 10:46:46 pm Yeah I really hope the Argon team can get all the ntsc games to play eventually, as I would really love to play the Trauma games and I'm guessing more games will come out to that are good that we won't be able to play unless they bring out a fix for it.
I have found to with the Wii, not sure if it's the chip or the laser on the wii, but it's very fussy with different brands of discs and the programs you use to burn them. A game won't run at first, but if you burn the same game using different media/program, it will the next time. Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: mink on March 05, 2008, 11:12:09 pm it's very fussy with different brands of discs and the programs you use to burn them. I've found it quite the opposite, Games have worked with various cheap discs using Nero 8 at fast burn speeds without any problems at all. Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: tef892 on March 05, 2008, 11:30:37 pm it's very fussy with different brands of discs and the programs you use to burn them. I've found it quite the opposite, Games have worked with various cheap discs using Nero 8 at fast burn speeds without any problems at all. Same here, my wii's have been very happy with different 'normal' quality brands like Ritek / cmc etc. Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: larrylje on March 06, 2008, 02:12:12 am Allot of the cheaper media might work but they will degrade faster.
So for me longer life outweighs the price. In the long run better quality media ends up costing less since it last longer. Take my movies for instance. I used Imation, Sony, Memorex when I first started backing up my movies. Within 10 months to a year I started getting read errors with them. I since started using Taiyo Yuden Premium Silver Thermal Lacquer 8X DVD-R Media and have had no issues with those backups that i have burned a few years ago. Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: RomperStomper on March 06, 2008, 07:08:48 am Well my wii doesn't like Sony DVDR's at all, only played them a couple of times and makes a bit of a noise compared to if I burn the same game on a ritek disc, go figure ???
Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: FrMi on March 06, 2008, 10:02:56 am I have installed several InFeCtuS 2 chip in Wii's (PAL's and NTSC-Japan's), so far the 1.8 firmware have only worked properly in one of the Wii:s.
If I use 1.7 it works fine, I have not tested several different combinations, but even with original PAL and NTSC-Japan DVD games the Wii's have had difficulties to read when using the 1.8 firmware. Best regards FrMi Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: Infectus on March 06, 2008, 06:25:25 pm If after an fw update there are problems to read some disk, the cause can be the region patch wires.

Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: cmyhack on March 06, 2008, 07:08:34 pm I think that Infectus says more like:"Could be the region patch wires..if they are soldered in wrong position (..ex, NTSC position on PAL Wii..) My backup of Sonic Riders doesn't work as smooth as before. (Reading Errors, have to take the disk out and put it back in). Anyway that's not the strange part. I have another Wii running YAOSM 3.0 beta 6 here. (Both are PAL) First of all the Disc seems to get warmer in the Infectus 2 Wii, BUT somehow I CANNOT skip the intro Video on the Infectus 2 Wii but I can on the YAOSM one. Any Idea? EDIT: I tried 2 different WiiMotes and both are updated to 3.2E. Downgraded to 1.7 --> doesn't work. AHHHHH ok fixed it... I forgot to unplug my Gamecube controller... Anyway still got the reading errors in the Infectus Wii. I think it might spin the Disk too fast, since it becomes warmer than in the YAOSM Wii. That might be the reason for better acceptance of Disc burned at faster Speed too. Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: dellskyline on March 07, 2008, 07:36:15 am ive been having some unable to read disk problems with this new firmware when i was on 1.6 it was working fine

I dont think you should really be comparing it between completely different versions of the Wii. Unless you have real proof that the disc is spinning faster w/ the argon than without it.
Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: argonwii on March 07, 2008, 04:11:52 pm Disc temperature depends on a ton of different factors. I dont think you should really be comparing it between completely different versions of the Wii. Unless you have real proof that the disc is spinning faster w/ the argon than without it. A few others have mentioned that they feel the disk is spinning faster than the previous versions or something has changed in the reading of the disc. I know that after upgrading to 1.8 that the Wii is noticeably louder than before, playing the same game. It seems to me that sometimes the laser is working harder to read the disc or rereading a disc because it cannot read it. I'm not trying to bash the Infectus team but like others only trying to help by providing input on problems. The Infectus team I know is working hard but they are the ones who are benefiting most us since they are getting FREE testers for their chips in addition to making money off of chips sold. There is no point for people to make up stories here since it does not benefit us. Don't make excuses for problems by asking for proof If you don't believe it, then move on. Don't doubt people or else people will stop posting their experiences. It will not help anyone in that case. Comparing two completely separate Wiis (different DVD drives) and "measuring" something as unstable as temperature with your hand is basically useless. I even noted the problem with the laser sounding overworked in one of my posts, so don't assume I'm some apologist for infectus or something like that. It's ok to make claims when you have something to back them up. Irrelevant information can get in the way of real problems. That's what I was pointing out. Comparing "temperature" between 1.4/1.6 Argon and 1.8 would've been slightly more useful (maybe). Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: Popo28 on March 07, 2008, 11:12:46 am Hi, i noticed that sometimes, when playing a backuped game, all works fine. When I changed the disk to SMG the wii couldnt read the disk with fw 1.8. When I switched off the wii and started again, then no problem exists anymore. I never had this problem with earlier FW versions.

They are not 100% different drives. You can actually put the D2C Board in and old Wii and vice versa so only the board is different. Anyway the main thing I wanted to mention was that skipping the intro (solved by unplugging the Gamecube Controller). Just noticed the reading failures and "slower spinning" disk by accident. There where a few users that said they use cheaper media perfectly fine. All I added was the life spanned of cheap media is less then better quality media. If a newbie reads that cheap media will work due to previous post then they might think wow I will save some money and use cheap media. When in the long run you will probably spend more money due to the life spanned being less with cheaper media. So I felt it necessary to add that info for newbies so they are not misled by the previous post of using cheap media. All fmv in all games jumps but apart from that they work ok, Cant open up the wii to check install as i will void the pro installers warrenty, Burned on different media with different speeds, still jumps, I know people are saying its not a firmware issue as they have the same setup, could it be due to different wii hardware Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: krayziexploiter on March 09, 2008, 08:25:18 am many of you are only focusing on the media. The burner is also an important factor. Not any burner works good with different kinds or media. It's the combination of the two that need to produce a reliable disc that the wii can read. Stuttering in game movies really indicate a read problem. I say try a good burner like pioneer and use media that is known to work well like ritek g05 or verbatim dvd-r

Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: kleinishere on March 10, 2008, 09:27:32 pm That happened to me, too. I found somewhere over at psx-scene forums what colors of dots correspond to what version of the chip you have. After I loaded the DAT file I then clicked the read ID code and it spit it out, before i loaded the dat file i got the error message you're seeing. I would try loading each DAT file, hitting Read ID Code, and seeing what it says, it will probably give you an error for one and no error for the either. There shouldn't be any harm in simply loading the DAT on your computer as long as you don't hit any button that says "program" on it. Perhaps someone else can confirm this...

I don´t find the 1.8 firmware as stable as the 1.4 firmware. (1) If you turn off the Wii console and then immediately turn it on again, the Infectus2 often deactivate (fw1.8). Then you sometimes had to turn off and wait 5-10 seconds or more, before you can turn it on with an active chip. (2) Some Infectus2 chips in only working when the USB is connected to the PC. Both problems can often be solved if you replace the Infectus2 chip, but it is strange that they always work perfect with fw1.4 I have installed 150+ Infectus2 chips at this point. Of course testing the burned dvd's in the PC where you burned them at full speed will yield different results then when actually playing them in the Wii themselves. I don't mean to argue with you, but isn't what your doing comparing two totally different things ? By the way, i can't confirm that as i'm not a specialist, but that's my opinion about it. Argon Firmware 1.8 Super Mario Sunshine NTSC (US) Backup [Verbatim DVD-R] I am able to play Super Mario Sunshine, but after getting the 5th shine, I seem to be getting a lot of black screens that suggest I turn off my Gamecube and check the manual. My Gamecube isn't even turned on, so this is quite baffling... I noticed on the first post it mentions the game freezes after talking to the professor to get help, but I have played past that without errors, but now I'm getting the aforementioned screen. Does anyone know why I am getting this error? I have successfully played Super Mario Galaxy on my Wii with the exact same type of media, so I highly doubt it is a disc read error. requirements: - SSBB DVD5.iso - Argon with FW 1.8 - Trucha Signer with common key: EB,E4,2A,22,5E,85,93,E4,48,D9,C5,45,73,81,AA,F7 - Wii VMC 2.2 - GenericWiiPatcher - Pal Wii ;-) 1- update wii with latest FW (3.2E) via update system menu 2- run Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn PAL version. This will update the Wii without double channels (PAL update on PAL Wii) 3- use SSBB DVD5.iso (just missing some movies stored on the second layer) 4- Extract main.dol (2nd Partition) 5- Use the WiiVMC2.2 and drag the extracted main.dol to wii-vmc.exe 6- Then choose option B (Brute Patcher) and then choose option 2 (for 60Hz for PAL). 7- Now run main.dol in GenericWiiPatcher and remove the 001 error. No other options needed here! 8- Replace the old main.dol with the patched main.dol 9- Trucha Sign both of the partitions (right click on the paritions). 10- Burn (always use Verbatim DVD-R @ 4 speed) 11- load the game (Argon makes it work region free) Put the game in your Wii at 60Hz. !!! The first 3 loading screens will appear flickery, during 25 seconds. If the SSBB menu screen is still flickery, find the SSBB options menu and turn off Deflicker. The game should now be full screen during fights with your PAL Wii on 60Hz. Have FUN!!! I think it's related to the firmware. I'm running the latest 1.8 firmware, and burned SSBB on a good quality disc.
After playing a GC or single layer wii game, it has a hard time loading up SSBB. It will either give me a read error right at the start of the game (at the intro), or it will not read the disc at all from the channels screen. The solution is to hard power off the Wii by unplugging it or holding the power button, and turning it back on. After doing this, the game loads up and plays perfectly. The movies do not skip or anything, so I know it's a good copy, and a good quality disc. Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: larrylje on March 16, 2008, 07:33:29 pm SSBB works perfectly fine on my ARGON and have not heard of anyone else having this issue. It is probably a backup issue.
Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: 67stang on March 16, 2008, 11:50:25 pm I found that with firmware 1.7 that the user defined layer break was necessary to keep this from happening when making backups of SSBB. Otherwise works great.
Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: bikeboy24 on March 17, 2008, 12:44:56 am ssbb was burned with layerbreak. I can replicate the issue every time. After hard powering off the Wii, works great
Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: 67stang on March 17, 2008, 01:33:52 am I'm now wondering if this is the laser issue that everyone is talking about. My launch Wii couldn't read Dual Layer + R backups either. My kids figured out that they could boot the DVD-5 version and then do a disc swap to make it run the DVD-9 version. If you try this and it works, then I would say a laser adjustment could solve your problem. Don't attempt it without a multimeter or you could toast your laser.
Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: bikeboy24 on March 17, 2008, 02:00:02 am Try hard powering off the Wii and booting from the DVD9 disc. I can boot up with the DVD9 version after doing this, 100% of the time.
I don't think it's a contaminated laser issue. My Wii is pretty new (< 2 months old). It also doesn't explain why it fails at the exact same place everytime... The intro scene where they show all the characters (the audio cuts out after 1 second, and then I get the error message). Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: crisdo98 on March 17, 2008, 11:16:54 am Bikeboy. I get this exact same problem with my Japanese Wii. The Wii is practically brand new (maybe used 6 times), has never been around smoke and the only issue I have is when using 1.8 firmware and trying to boot a fantastic copy of SSBB. It gets a few seconds into the character screen then throws up a japanese error message. If I eject the disk, then re-insert it then sometimes it will continue loading after 30 seconds.
To be honest I think maybe it is the laser as it like gives up but then starts to try read again.. Can know for sure with out downgrading which I may do later today and post my results. I did however hear a rumor that people who sent their consoles for 'cleaning' were actually getting back a better quality new laser? Keep up the good work. Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: 67stang on March 17, 2008, 01:21:55 pm I tried a DVD-R DL and it didn't work for me . Only tried once though. Also your laser doesn't have to be dirty to have laser issues. Some are saying from the factory they are not set strong enough. I turned the resistance from 800 ohms down to about 650 and it now reads Dual Layers just fine.
Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: mike234 on March 17, 2008, 01:32:43 pm Better try other media first, this methode will reduce the life span of your laser...

I use only the best media available. Always Verbatim- R single layer and Verbatim +R Dual Layers. I only tried a Ritek -R Dual LAyer to see the result. As long as you don't over do the Laser Pot adjustment, the lifespan difference will be minor. My PS2 laser must be 10 years old and it still works fine. Brand new Wii lasers are only 49 bucks, so that's a price I am willing to pay for trouble free disc reading.

I was on firmware 1.8 and it didn't seem quite right to me. For some reason the games made a louder noise when loading up and just didn't like it so I went back to Argon 1.7 and have kept it ever since. But just recently I went back to 1.8 because it said it had better media compatibillity and had troubles with 1 of my brawl copies. Worked sometimes and sometimes gave me a error. But the other copy was perfect. But I thought I would try 1.8 to see if it would read my discs better. But to my surprise it didn't read any of my Brawl discs and 1.7 did. So I'm thinking that 1.7 has better compatibillity then 1.8. Does anyone else want to try this out also to see if it's just me. Maybe 1.7 is better overall then 1.8 ? after all this thread, I don't think anyone has compared them , just from older versions I think ? And also, is there going to be a 1.9 update ? Because I would still like some more GC games that don't work properly and if possible better dual layered support. That's if it's the chip and not the laser, thanks. Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: jonko on March 20, 2008, 07:12:24 pm I just flashed back to 1.7 (had 1.8) and now my el cheapo dual layer disc with SSSB now works.
with 1.8 i didnt show up in the channel and with 1.7 it works. i used an arita dvd+r dl which i use for my xbox 360 also. so media compatibility for 1.7 is better as 1.8. Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: renepela on March 21, 2008, 11:43:32 am I also flashed back to 1.7, because of choppy video problems in 1.8.
After flashing back to 1.7 all games with choppy video worked great with smooth video. So the problem with choppy video is defenitely a firmware problem and not a disc problem. I tested with super mario galaxy PAL with my wii on 480p. In firmware 1.8 it has choppy video from the beginning where the pirate ships appear in the sky. With firmware 1.7 no problem ! So 1.8: Great, but choppy video 1.7: All is smooth Hopefully the choppy video playback will be fixed in 1.9 (if there's gonna be a 1.9 now wasabi has a higher priority). In the meantime I continue using 1.7 Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: idog on March 21, 2008, 01:47:13 pm Maybe Infectus can enlighten us ?
Since I just experienced the same thing. Choppy and movies freezing in SSBB on Pal Wii with Argon 1.8. Reflashed it with 1.7 and the same disc is now running without problems. Reflashed it again at 1.8, choppiness was back. Back to 1.7, no more problems. Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: bikeboy24 on March 21, 2008, 09:03:23 pm Spoke too soon...still happening. I thought the latest Wii update made the problem go away.
Also noticed that with Mario Power Tennis (GC NTSC-U), I occasionally get disc read errors when it goes from the character selection screen to the actual game. Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: krayziexploiter on March 22, 2008, 07:21:18 am why don't you guys first try a decent burner and media. Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: RomperStomper on March 22, 2008, 08:02:15 am I just bought a new Sony DVD burner and I normally use Verbatim Dual layered discs, but I tried a New Ritek Gold dual layered disc that seems to be as good if not better then Verbatim. The cheap one I tried was just one I had lying around just for fun to see if it would work or not :)
But the reason I commented early about firmware is all these pages of replies and it doesn't really say much at all and just thought I would post that maybe 1.8 is a downgrade from 1.7 and to see if it was just me or if it works for others also. Because it would help the infectus team if they did decide to bring out another update. This would not explain why the disc reads perfectly 100% of the time after a hard reboot. Choppy video issues are related to poor media. Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: krayziexploiter on March 22, 2008, 03:44:31 pm I wasn't particularly aiming at your problems which are strange enough. I don't have such issues
Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: Heat6Jones on March 22, 2008, 06:13:51 pm i have a good burner and used high quality discs and my ssbb always skips during the beginning of the intro, then the intro pauses and the laser sounds like it's relocating itself and then the game won't skip at all, no matter what, even if i play 30 hours in a row ( tested )
if i reset, the intro plays fine the laser can read the disc fine, it's just doing something stupid that i think the firmware is causing Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: renepela on March 22, 2008, 10:51:50 pm One again: The choppy video in some games on 1.8 is not caused by bad media.
I use verbatim DVD-R and tried burning on 2, 2.4, 4, 6, 8 en 16 speed. I also tried several burners. All with the same result. When a disc works perfectly smooth in 1.7 and that very same disc has choppy video in 1.8 than it can't be the media. Same media, same wii, same chip, same burner, same wii drive !! The only difference is the firmware. something in firmware 1.8 causes choppy video. At least on my pal wii, running on 480p. Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: RomperStomper on March 23, 2008, 12:10:56 pm Hey I got a theory about choppy video. If you mean choppy video as in it runs like slow motion and sound goes funny ?
If so this happened to me on my Brawl copy today. But what happened is that I changed my Wii settings earlier trying to get a Emulator to work. I cahnged the DISPLAY mode from my normal PAL 60 or 480P which I usually use and it was on PAL 50. Because I tried my Brawl copy in and it was really slow and sound stuttering I thought my disc stuffed up or something. Then I checked my settings and it was on PAL50. Changed it to either PAL60 or 480P (both work just as good) and it played perfect after this. SO maybe depending on the region of the game, if you have your TV set to a different Region it might effect this choppy Video or maybe you's are talking about comething completely different to what happened to me. Just thought I would let's you's know incase it's the same thing. If not continue this really long thread ;D Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: idog on March 23, 2008, 12:49:10 pm why don't you guys first try a decent burner and media. I have absolutely no problems whatsoever with choppy video or ssbb. And even though it might run better for you on 1.7 it still is crappy media and will only wear your laser down faster. I ALWAYS use Verbatim media and Pioneer burners (have a 112D and a 115D). Don't tell me those are not decent brands ? *nothing* is different in the entire setup except for the firmware version on the Argon : 1.8 : choppy/freeze 1.7 : everything runs smoothly Riddle me this :) Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: krayziexploiter on March 23, 2008, 02:00:46 pm Strange thing is thousands of people are running 1.8 with no problems. Pioneers and verbatims should have good results although verbatim does have a lot of fake discs on the market. Also there are various reports of verbatim dvd+r giving bad results. Remember it's not the quality or brand name that is the main factor. It's the compatibility of the wii and the media. Maybe there should also be some more focusing on installation. Too long wires meam more interference.
Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: idog on March 23, 2008, 04:19:52 pm Maybe I wasn't clear enough. The problem only exists with SSBB.
Single layers are never a problem. (and for the record, I use Verbs SL DVD-R and DL DVD+R 2.4x). Only thing I'm saying (and a lot of people with me) is that Infectus might want to take a look into the difference between 1.7 and 1.8 with regard to this choppiness (if that's a word). I have no doubt about my installations, done over 70 Argon installs by now and never a single problem (apart from the occasional defective chip (3 so far..)) except for the SSBB issue (as said, only with 1.8..., if I put 1.7 on it, everything's peachy). And yes, my wires are short enough (as short as can be). Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: Heat6Jones on March 23, 2008, 08:30:03 pm i flashed to 1.7 and still get choppy video briefly during the opening video

And even if it would: It's not choppy in 1.7 no matter what video mode I choose. and I don't want to change the video settings for every game. The choppy video is caused by firmware 1.8. I'm sure. I went back to 1.7 and with the same settings everything works great. It's not the media and it's not the video settings. Maybe there's some debug code left in 1.8 causing slowdowns? I have Argon 1.8 [125] on NTSC consol. (13 + 4 wires installation) I use always verbatim DVD with a NEC DVD-Burner. I never had problem with my DVD writer. Me too I have choppy video with SSBB. Also sometimes gamecube games : like mario party 7 is freezing. When will be available a real stable version ? I am a bit disappointed about what is happenning with this chip... and the stability of the 13 + 4 wires installation. I hope the team dont stop working to find a solution with this installation (13 + 4 wires). Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: shaunie81 on March 26, 2008, 03:30:28 am I am also getting the choppy playback with SSBB. This is with 1.7 and 1.8 firmware. Before anyone goes and blames it on the media or my burner. I am using Verbatim DL media, rated at 8X. I burned it at 2X, 4X, 6X (twice), and 8X. I have a Lite-On burner that is less than one month old with the newest fw. I tested my burned disks on a friends Wii, with a Wiinja, and there is no choppy video at all. Layer Break was done on all disks also.
I doubt this is a laser issue. My wii is only a couple months old, and other than the choppy video, the Wii reads game disks fine, DL and regular. This is NOT an installation problem. This was a professional mod, by one of the best modders in Canada. My wii is a NTSC-U Wii with 1.8 fw. and Argon 13+4 wire mod. The wii is in a smoke free, animal free home. All burns were done using IMG burn, setting the book type to DVD-ROM. In addition, when I hit the home button, the movies catch up, and play normal for a couple seconds, and then the video gets choppy again. Obviously the drive is either reading too slow or too fast. But like I mentioned before, pressing the home key, allows the disk to catch up. If your Wii is reading fine, don't leave a stupid comment. There are a ton of us, who are having problems with the Choppy video. Don't mention media, install, or dirty lens, this is not the problem. To cut it short I removed the flat cable,(it made no difference if the programmer was connected) and the video cleared up. I then verified the same thing on 2 more consoles I was installing Argons on. I've gat a Pioneer 212d burner and Verbatim -R DVD's. I even removed the cable while watching the video and it cleared up instantly. I've got a thread started on this in the technical forum.

Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: anonimo200 on April 16, 2008, 10:29:39 pm Good evening. I've been reading in this post that once you have upgraded the firmware to 1.8 (using Infectus .3.9) you can downgrade to 1.7. My question is, how do you do it? According to the Infectus Team:
8- IMPORTANT COMPATIBILITY WARNING: The programmer 0.0.3.9 will update the INJECTUS / INFECTUS USB JTAG controller, after this update the old programmers will not works... the update is automatically started when you plug INFECTUS or INJECTUS to PC USB port. As I understand it, you need Infectus .3.9 to upgrade to firmware 1.8 (and it only works with 1.8). You would need Infectus .3.8 Beta to downgrade to the firmware 1.7, but they say the programmers will not work once updated to be able to work with Infectus .3.9. I hope my question is clear enough Thank you Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: jurassic on April 16, 2008, 11:03:35 pm I have an Argon Chip. Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: codone on April 17, 2008, 12:31:48 am People keep saying that no one is having this choppy video problem... Well add me to the list of those that are!
Here is what is happening to me. Sometimes --- on Warioware Smooth Moves, when Wario is "eating in his chair" (video for Level 1), the video gets *really* choppy. On SMG, when the boats appear, it gets a little choppy. Now here's the interesting thing (which proves it's NOT bad media). I can power off with the remote. Power back on, run Warioware again, and it's PERFECT, no choppyness at all. Same for any game with choppy video, or "slow" loading. Any time I've done a "power cycle", the game has played perfectly for HOURS. Perhaps the 1.8 firmware needs to be power cycled every time, to run a game smoothly? I've also had issue where a game won't load right, it clunks and clunks, and loads really slow, or gets the black screen (even a couple of my *original* Wii discs in 100% mint condition, Zelda Twilight, and Link's Crossbow Training -- So how's that for a non-media issue?) Again, I power off, power on, and it loads 100% smooth. Now, since I couldn't compare to an earlier version, I don't know if this is the 1.8 firmware, or, if my Wii just has this problem? (it's a new Wii, but I modded it soon after opening it. Which leads me to my next question below). All I've ever used is firmware 1.8, so I can't compare to lesser versions. I am waiting for a response to a post from another member, asking how to downgrade from 1.8 to 1.7, when Infectus implied that this was not possible after upgrading the programmer chip (which I did when I updated to 1.8). Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: shaunie81 on April 17, 2008, 01:02:11 am I downgraded to 1.7 and it did not work. So I doubt 1.7 will give you any better results.
I have noticed that with the programmer plugged in, while playing the games you mentioned. The video would get worse, and would correspond to the red led blinking quickly right before the bad video. I am not sure about powering off the Wii. I will try that tonight and see if that works. I would usually hit the home button, and then the game would catch up, and play fine for a couple seconds. My experiences with Wario Ware + SMG were corrected when using a different burner. The media was not the problem, it was the laser. After reburning the iso, at 8X with at LITE-ON DH20AP, the choppy video stopped. I always thought this was the problem, just because my laptop NEC burner had been so much. You can tell that it was a multi burn cd just by the color of the burn pattern. Bottom line is you need to try and burn with a different burner, at a speed of at least 6X to 8X. Do not burn at 2X The Choppy Video on SSBB has yet to be fixed. I still have the ISO, but I don't know why the video is Choppy on my Wii with Argon, and not of my friends wii who has a Wiinja chip. Hope that helps. Luckily it is only one game. Luckily if you deleted your ISO, just use Clone CD on the bad burns, and reburn with a better burner at a faster speed. Check newegg.com they have very cheap burners Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: codone on April 17, 2008, 01:31:36 am I am using a Pioneer 111D DL burner, and TY DVD+R media 8x burn (both supposed to be very good quality). And again, when I got the choppy video in Warioware, I immediately powered off, powered on, fired up Wario again (didn't eject disc or anything), and it runs great. So I'm not sure how this can be the media?
BTW, I have been running with the programmer hooked up all the time, so I can see the disc activity lights. Are you saying I shouldn't do this, or do you know if it will affect the disc reading, maybe be causing the choppiness from time to time? I'll probably disconnect it, and see over the next few days if it seems to fix the problem. Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: anonimo200 on April 17, 2008, 04:46:38 am Again the same question. Just want to be sure I'll be able to downgrade before testing. The Injestus Team say:
IMPORTANT REMEMBER!!! 1- WHEN YOU CONNECT "INJECTUS" TO A PC WHERE IS INSTALLED PROGRAMMER 0.0.3.9, THE LOADER INSIDE THE INJECTUS MICROCONTROLLER WILL BE AUTOMATICAL UPDATE... AFTER IS NOT POSSIBLE TO USE OLD VERSIONS OF PROGRAMMERS!!! 2- WITH 0.0.3.9 PROGRAMMER YOU CAN USE ONLY .DAT FILES INSIDE THE ZIP FILE, so YOU NEED EVER USE THE ARGON .DAT FILES STORED IN THE PROGRAMMER ZIP SUITE. Pls. let me know if there are problems, here if we respect these two points all works well BYE OSCAR So, how do you downgrade from firmware 1.8 to 1.7? Thank you Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: Td on April 17, 2008, 04:57:10 am You can't. And there isn't really any reason to downgrade to 1.7 AFAIK.
Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: codone on April 17, 2008, 01:09:08 pm Just an FYI -- I took the plunge on trying a backup of my newly purchased (USA) Super Smash Bros. Brawl today (I hate to use the originals).
* I have the Argon V1.8 FW * I had 3.2U updated from the Internet * I burned the ISO image using IMGBURN, using the manual layer break method at 2.4x (Ridata 2.4x DVD+R DL media) * When it booted the disc, it showed a System Update. I accepted it. FYI it still showed 3.2U after the update. I have read it's really 3.2U V2 * After update, I powered off and on (for no real reason) * It booted dual layer SSBB perfectly, and played the opening video perfectly with no choppiness (many others said this was choppy on theirs). * The game seems to play fine (I only played it for about 10 minutes today) So thats my SSBB experience -- now I wanted to mention about the FMV choppiness in general on 1.8 (or is it just my Wii?) Whatever is causing it, it's really not a problem for me. If the game has choppy FMV, I power cycle, and it always goes away, and it's never started again in the middle of a game. So *if* it is 1.8, then I'd still prefer to stay with it over 1.7, as I hear that many more Gamecube games work with 1.8. And despite what one Infectus team member said, I DO CARE about Gamecube compatibilty, and wish they would improve it further. This point about GC compatibilty is the only problem I have with Argon/Infectus' attitude about their product. Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: Infectus on April 17, 2008, 06:35:22 pm Only the loader can't be downgrade.
The actel fw, can be update every time, with previous or later versions without problems. But.... in the last programmer ( executable and loader ) we optimize the programming routine (much more faster) so is impossible use the previous versions. Other... actel modify it's dat file and these will be not compatible 100% with previous programmer. My wii NTSC-U FW 1.8 Argon with 13+4 install 3.2U Wii firmware I still get the choppy video after loading the game. As before, if I hit the start button it catches up. I did the layer break also. This is on my a LITE ON DH20A4P burner, with book type changed to DVD-ROM The single layer games have little to no choppiness. Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: Td on April 19, 2008, 07:35:48 am Have you tried removing the flatcable completely? Both problems can often be solved if you replace the Infectus2 chip, but it is strange that they always work perfect with fw1.4 I have installed 150+ Infectus2 chips at this point. Use FW 1.7 and it will work, think i have had 15 - 20 pcs. out off 250 pcs. that wont run FW1.8, first i replace the mod, then i test FW 1.7 and all was OK. Maby Infectus will fix this in the next FW so we can be-sure that the mod is working for the costumer when we have update it with FW1.8 for the costumer. Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: codone on April 26, 2008, 01:16:48 am Eternal Darkness -- Freezes at Edgar Allen Poe Is this at the title screen of the game Ugotit and you hear a voice then it says please restart your system or something like this can't rememebr and freezes ? If so I got the same problem as you on this game. Yes exactly. Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: Td on April 26, 2008, 01:21:12 am I had a similar problem on the Wasabi firmware. I don't remember how I fixed it. The same thing would just repeat over and over and over again.
I think i just completely turned off the Wii. Turned it back on and as soon as that screen came up, I continuously presses A or start and eventually it skipped the screen and the rest of the game worked fine. Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: codone on April 26, 2008, 03:54:52 am I'll see if I can get that to work -- I did think of that, and tried to hit start or A fast, it didn't work, but I only tried once.
On another note -- I tried SSBB again tonight (I'd only loaded it that first time, like I mentioned in my previous post), anyway, the opening movie WAS choppy for me every time now, and even power cycling the Wii, it remained choppy. It would be choppy in slightly different places upon power cycling. But once it started getting choppy, it remained choppy for the rest of the video. I have the programmer hooked up, and when it gets choppy, the RED light really stays on bright. And after the opening video, the drive just thrashes and the sound is choppy on the "press start" screen for many seconds. Also, many of the selectable videos played okay (the E3 video, etc), but the "How to Play" video was choppy bad, just like the opening video. For the record, this is the only game that I haven't been able to "power cycle" the Wii and get rid of the choppy FMV. I am using Mario Kart PAL on a PAL Wii with 3.1E. I get an error has occurred please refer to operating manual instead of lagging FMV. I have three backups on different media and these games work perfect on a YAOSM modded Wii. I have installed over 40 Argons and I have had this problem on many say 1 out of 4.
1) Argon 1.8 FW followed installation instructions with case on = Error 2) Argon 1.8 FW followed installation instructions with case off = Perfect 3) Argon 1.8 FW used alternate instruction with case on = Error 4) Argon 1.8 FW used alternate instruction with case off = Perfect 5) Argon 1.8 FW used shorter wires and neater alternate instruction case on = Error 6) Argon 1.8 FW used shorter wires and neater alternate instruction case off = Perfect Conclusion, take the case off the Wii and it works perfectly. With the above information it is NOT an installation problem there is NO shorting the case is making. 1) Argon 1.8 FW with case on = Error 2) Argon 1.8 FW with case off = Perfect 3) Argon 1.7 FW with case on = Error 4) Argon 1.7 FW with case off = Perfect 5) Argon 1.6 FW with case on = Error 6) Argon 1.6 FW with case off = Perfect Conclusion, the FW makes no difference. 1) Ribbon cable folded like instructions with case on = Error 2) Ribbon cable folded like instructions with case off = Perfect 3) Ribbon cable folded like instructions with extra tape to stop it touching any metal with case on = Error even worse 4) Ribbon cable folded like instructions with extra tape to stop it touching any metal with case off = Perfect 5) Ribbon cable completely unfolded and hanging out the back of the wii with case on = Perfect 6) Ribbon cable completely unfolded and hanging out the back of the wii with case off = Perfect 7) Ribbon cable completely removed with case on = Perfect 8) Ribbon cable completely removed with case off = Perfect 9) Ribbon cable unfolded but run round inside the will with case on = Perfect 10) Ribbon cable unfolded but run round inside the will with case off = Perfect Conclusion, there is a fault with the ribbon or picking up of noise. To fix this the ribbon should be run flat around the Wii before hanging out of the case. My thoughts, I brought 50 Argons and have silently been testing over the few last mouths and I appreciate that the mod is getting better however it is causing problems with customers and me. I am currently low on Argons but am unsure whether to order again as I have lost confidence in the quality of the modchip. I am seriously considering moving to Wasabi or D2Pro as I need something that is going to work. Even with the release of the SPI FW if the ribbon still causes this problem what’s the point in buying more? I hope you can fix this with a FW instead of me having to open every Wii I modded to correct a faulty ribbon. Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: codone on April 26, 2008, 03:14:43 pm try unhooking the flat cable off the argon. if tht doesn't help it's the media You mean open the Wii, disassemble, and get the cable totally off? Or just unhook the programmer, and leave the cable dangling? I think you mean disassemble, lol, but I'm not looking forward to getting it all apart again (but I'll do it, if I have to) ----- EDIT -- I just read the new post above -- sound like removing the ribbon may make a big difference, and may be the whole problem? I routed my cable almost exactly like the YouTube video on PSXCare. Jadgamez - can you post a picture, or explain exactly how you ran the cable, with the case on, that fixed the problem? I'm going to totally remove my cable first, and experiment with Warioware Smooth Moves (seems to have choppy video a lot at opening FMV), SSBB, and trying GC Eternal Darkness (failed about 19/20 attempts using a couple types of media) It's nice they have people like Jadgamez (and me) to debug their buggy product for them. Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: Jadgamez on April 26, 2008, 03:52:32 pm Jadgamez - can you post a picture, or explain exactly how you ran the cable, with the case on, that fixed the problem? Sorry but my test machine is now fully closed up and I am happily playing Mario Kart without any problems NOW ;D I just ran the cable on top of the DVD drive then back round and out of the GC memory card ports. Used a bit of tap and make sure it doesn’t interfere with the drive mechanism. Can a FW upgrade be made to ground the JTAG address lines so the ribbon cannot interfere with the Argon or something also those lines? Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: codone on April 26, 2008, 06:39:36 pm Okay, I got 95% rid of my FMV choppiness. And the other 5%, it's GREATLY reduced to just the smallest blips of choppiness. BUT, 9/10 times when I test SSBB or Wario Smooth Moves opening FMV, it works 100% now. Note before I made changes, I had it bad -- maybe 1 out of 10 boots on SSBB would be clean. Although I had much better luck on single layer games like Wario.. prob smooth 5/10 times.
My changes had zero effect on the Gamecube game Eternal Darkness... It still dies at opening, Edgar Poe. Here's what I did, and what changes I saw: (1) Removed ribbon cable completely from Argon 1.8 (2) Tested with case/metal shielding off -- WORKED PERFECTLY (meaning my 95% I assume, was perfect at the time tho) Note when I say it worked, that means I tested SSBB, Wario, over and over, powering off, ejecting disc, many, many, many times... (3) Put it all back together inclucing metal shielding. Immediately went back to the old problems... Drive would CLUNK from time to time, and got choppiness on testing (FAILED).. SOOO this points (in my case) to the ribbon cable seeming to have nothing to do with it. (4) Took off Metal shielding, retested again... WORKED PERFECTLY (5) Put plastic case back on, no metal shielding. Note, many screws will not tighten (must be left out) since the shielding is gone -- but, I feel there is enough screws still to keep it securely together. STILL WORKED PERFECTLY. I assume that if I had run the ribbon out at this point, it would't have affected me -- but until I do, we won't know for sure. But, as per #3 above, removing the ribbon and putting it back together with metal shielding DIDN'T HELP me. So I still hope Infectus will look into Eternal Darkness (USA on USA Wii) Gamecube game. I tried DVD+R, and DVD-RW, both seem to fail identically. I also found a thread on another forum about running the Action Replay on a unmodified Wii having the same crash?? I cannot confirm this. I guess a question for people out there... those that aren't having FMV probs, did you leave off the metal shielding? Those that are having choppiness -- did you leave it INSTALLED? Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: codone on April 27, 2008, 07:01:03 pm More news on Eternal Darkness for Gamecube -- I got it to work!
After some research, I found a tool called FSTFIX V1.5F I ran IMGBURN and re-read my GC backup of Eternal Darkness to ISO, and ran: fstfix eternaldarkness.iso t g The options do the following: ** FSTFIX image.gcm t = ALIGN 32k (Force all files on 32k) ** FSTFIX image.gcm g = ALIGN + 3GIGASIZE. I did NOT do the audio streaming fix (the 's' option). It's booted perfectly through the intro to the main game menu 4 times in a row. Note that this was a valid image, 1.4 gig in size to begin with, not some compressed chopped image. So, if you are having any troubles with a gamecube game on Argon 1.8, I suggest trying the above. Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: Ugotit on April 28, 2008, 12:50:23 am Thank you codone that worked like a charm for eternal darkness.

When i run my mario party 5 back up, the screen goes black.........i try another backup and the screen went to green, but any of two runs..... I try to change the region.......and is pal..............can anyone help me?, now the firm is running for a long time.............??? thanks........ Its a valid image not compressed.......... Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: RomperStomper on April 30, 2008, 07:20:01 pm It's wierd one person can play a certain game with the same Region Wii and same mod chip and another can't. Maybe it has something to do with thith what program you use to burn your games or media. Or do you think it could be the different drives in the Wii ?
I'm not sure, but I can't get Mario Sunshine to work at all. Anyone eolse got this to work at all ? Btw, it's on a multi disc with 3 other games so not sure if this makes a difference, but the other ones work. I burn it with imgburn, its the only backup with problems, the only one. My media are TDK, and are quality devices..... I try last night passing the tool posted above, but its the same, screen back to black.... Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: Heat6Jones on May 03, 2008, 10:24:07 pm If I pull the ribbon really hard, will it come out without damaging the chip or the Wii? As of now, I can play VC games, Wii games and a couple GC games. SSBB usually gets choppy during and only during the intro video, but it pauses for a second and then plays fine. I don't see any updates improving anything for the Wii, so I don't think the ribbon is useful anymore.
Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: djesyn on May 05, 2008, 04:11:55 pm I'm having problems with my install. I have the 060 Infectus2, and all wires were checked with multimeter making good contact. The firmware was flashed smoothly as well. The Wii refuses to read any back up disks. Any back ups would result in a disk read error. This isn't my first install and the last install went perfectly. Have D2C wii and Infectus II, wiiktus setup (not wasabus). Previous working install was a D2B.
Title: Re: Argon and Infectus1/2 Firmware 1.8 Post by: codone on May 06, 2008, 06:51:13 pm If I pull the ribbon really hard, will it come out without damaging the chip or the Wii? No, you cannot just PULL the ribbon cable out! You could, however, easily take the Wii apart (if you get the $4 tri-wing screwdriver) and remove it correctly, it's not too hard. The ribbon cable is probably taped in a few spots, also, it could be running through some areas where it would be bound up if you tried to pull it. Not to mention, it's "snapped" into the connector on the modchip. Be very gentle and patient removing tape, etc, as you don't want to break the delicate ribbon cable. I used the PSXCARE video as a guide to take my Wii apart the first time. It's probably not causing you any trouble in the first place, but some people say it could. As per my post above, I got my choppy fix from taking the Wii apart, and removing the metal shielding (maybe it was causing extra pressure on the drive ?) With the metal shielding out, many screws don't have anything to screw back into, but there are enough to keep it securely together for normal use.
