DOWNGRADE OF DASHBOARD USING THE CHIP INFECTUS

Until recent times it was impossible to downgrade the Dashboard unless you owned a previous Backup NAND or equal to version 4548 (which together with the younger sister 4532 also allowed the initiation of Gentoo Linux and non-signed material), it was not possible to use Dash different from the one installed because a control was made directly from processor of the Xbox 360 on start up, in a few words, processor assigns a signature UNIQUE and UNDELETABLE to the NAND and Dash.

Now, thanks to Robinsod and other Hacker, is possible through a procedure called Timing Attack, using any Dashboad version 1888 to go back and then use the famous bugged Dash for launching  unsigned software (specifically Gentoo Linux) .

Before starting any explanation I want to clarify one thing: this type of operation is not a substitute in any way of the classic dvd reader hack, it won't allow the use of dvd backups, its purpose is to use 4548 or 4532 dashes throught a Bug that allows to launch software with free digital signature. Another thing that I want to clarify, it's not possible to use a single chip to perform this type of job and also hacking dvd reader. You will need to hack the DVD reader in order to launch Linux, you can do it by flashing it or install another infectus2 on it.

To determine your version of the Dash all you have to do is turn on the console and go to the system settings, you will read on "D" and "K"  the version, in my case is 2.0. 2858:

Once verified the goodness of our Dashboard we can proceed to the assembly of our chip Infectus, to do so we need:

- 1 Infectus chip an 1 Add On for Downgrade available at our sponsor Hardstore: Click

- A soldering station around 11W (recommended) pointed end by 0.5mm (recommended) or 1 mm max

- Tin solder wire diameter 0.6mm or less

- AWG30 wire or sacrificed PC IDE cable

- Soldering flux or soldering paste

- Solder wick

- Double sided tape

- USB cable type A / B MINI to program the chip

In addition, if you want have a good time while working

-A magnifying glass

-Experience with soldering

-Steady hand

IMPORTANT:

This installation is recommended for all the users with a discreet or even good knowledge of electronics and above all a good experience at soldering. The installation below will VOID COMPLETELY your WARRANTY

Let's begin:

- Firstly dismantle the console, if you do not know do you refer to this guide: CLICK

- Once disassembled the console proceed with dismantling Motherboard and Heatsink: CLICK

Prepare now for our chip Downgrade operation, as you can see we have:

- Infectus or Infectus 2

- Add On for Downgrade

We must link together the Add On Chip and the Modchip, to do this we must place the Add On on the left part of the chip to match as follows:

- The GND of the Add On Chip must be connected to infectus' GND

- Point "V" of the Add On Chip must match the Pin 17 of Chip Infectus:

We shall now proceed to remove a particular resistance to prevent console burning EFUSEs with future updates issued on Xbox-Live; the resistor is R6T3 at the bottom of the motherboard, near the processor heatsink: for that you will refer to the diagram below in the Part highlighted with the number 1:

Once removed the resistor we can proceed to the assembly of the modchip and the addon. We got two options :

- Connecting at the back of the motherboard according to the following scheme:

- Connecting directly to the NAND (installation certainly cleaner but more complex), to do so,  just follow the scheme at the following highlighted with the number 2:

Once finished, if you have followed the first method of connection on the back of the motherboard, you should have a result similar to that shown in the photo below. A small suggestion: you must be very careful positioning the wires and chips, because, working on the contrary you should calculate the length of the wires that must then exit the motherboard and get to the modchip, also carefully look where you placed the wires, if you created shorts the console may be irreparably damaged:

Now we can connect the wires on the Add On for the downgrade, as always link the points following the schematic, to do so just focus on the highlight number 3:

Last wire to be connected, Point A0 going to Pin 0 on the Infectus chip, to do so just follow the scheme at the following highlighted with the number 4:

A finished job should be similar to this ... Carefully look where you placed the wires, if you created shortcuts the console may be irreparably damaged:

A recommendation, once finished connections clean everything with alcohol in order to wash away any residual tin or wire that could create shorts.

We can place everything back inside the metal case and we should now have something similar to one of these photos (depending on how you connected points on the Nand). Connections on Nand made under the motherboard and chip set hypothetically above:

Connections directly above the Nand and modchip above:

Everything at the bottom of the motherboard, this is a another example of assembly (thank to Enrico Fontana):

Please be extremely careful not to crush the wires while placing the mother board.

The final position of the modchip is up to you, use some double sided tape to fix it somewhere.
